How Much Do I Need?
A 5 lb bag is well suited for small aquariums, nano tanks, betta tanks, or accent areas.
Larger aquariums may require multiple bags depending on the tank footprint and desired substrate depth.
Planted Aquarium Use
Pebble Portal Purple can be used around live aquarium plants, but it is primarily a decorative substrate rather than a nutrient-rich planted aquarium soil.
For rooted plants, consider using aquarium root tabs or another appropriate plant fertilizer to provide additional nutrients.
Aquarium Maintenance
Regular light gravel vacuuming will help remove uneaten food, fish waste, and other debris that may collect between the substrate particles.
Avoid aggressively disturbing the entire substrate bed at once in an established aquarium.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Estes Pebble Portal Purple safe for aquariums?
Yes. Estes Weird Waters aquarium substrates are designed for aquarium use and are listed as non-toxic.
Can I use Pebble Portal Purple in a freshwater aquarium?

Can it be used in saltwater aquariums?
Yes. Estes lists its aquarium gravel and sand products for both freshwater and saltwater use.
Do I need to rinse the substrate first?
Yes. Rinsing before use is recommended to remove loose dust and minimize cloudiness.
