The Black Mystery Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) is a freshwater snail known for its dark, glossy appearance and distinctive spiral-shaped shell. These snails are often found in aquariums and water gardens, as they help keep the tank clean by eating algae, decaying plant matter, and detritus.

Here are some key facts about the Black Mystery Snail:

  1. Appearance: The Black Mystery Snail has a dark, almost black shell that can be smooth or slightly rough depending on the environment. The shell is usually conical and spirals inward.

  2. Size: They can grow up to 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter, with some individuals reaching slightly larger sizes under ideal conditions.

  3. Habitat: They prefer freshwater environments with a stable temperature range of about 70°F to 80°F (21°C to 27°C). They are commonly kept in aquariums but can also be found in ponds and lakes.

  4. Diet: Mystery Snails are omnivores. They primarily eat algae, detritus, and plant matter. They may also consume leftover fish food, but they should be provided with some blanched vegetables, such as zucchini or spinach, for a balanced diet.

  5. Reproduction: These snails lay their eggs above the waterline, typically in clusters that can be pink, white, or orange in color. In an aquarium, the eggs may not always hatch, especially if there are no males, as they require both genders to reproduce.

  6. Behavior: They are relatively peaceful and do not harm plants or fish, making them excellent tank mates. However, they can become quite active when searching for food and may occasionally climb plants or tank decorations.

Snails may hibernate 3-5 days after arriving during shipping.
