Seachem SureStart Pack – Prime, Stability & Pristine 3 × 100 mL

The Seachem SureStart Pack is a convenient three-product aquarium starter and maintenance bundle containing 100 mL bottles of Seachem Prime, Stability, and Pristine. Together, these products condition new water, support the establishment of biological filtration, and help break down excess organic waste in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Prime makes tap water safe by removing chlorine and chloramine while temporarily detoxifying ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Stability supplies a blend of beneficial bacteria that helps establish and maintain the aquarium biofilter. Pristine uses a different bacterial blend to break down excess food, sludge, waste, detritus, and oily organic films.

The SureStart Pack is especially useful for new aquarium owners because it covers three important areas of aquarium care: water conditioning, biological filtration, and organic-waste management.

What Is Included?

Seachem Prime – 100 mL

Seachem Prime is a concentrated freshwater and saltwater conditioner that removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water. It also temporarily detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, allowing the aquarium’s biological filter additional time to process these compounds.

Prime is used when setting up an aquarium and whenever untreated tap water is added or replaced. It does not permanently remove ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate and does not replace biological filtration or water changes.

Seachem Stability – 100 mL

Seachem Stability is a biological filter supplement containing a blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria. These bacteria help process waste organics, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in freshwater and marine aquariums.

Stability is designed for new aquarium startup and may also be used after water changes, filter cleaning, medication, or the addition of new livestock. A seven-day dosing schedule is recommended when establishing a new aquarium.

Seachem Pristine – 100 mL

Seachem Pristine uses bio-augmentation to improve aquarium water quality naturally. Its specialized bacteria break down larger organic compounds such as excess food, sludge, fish waste, detritus, and oily surface films.

As the bacterial colonies become established, the biopolymers they produce can help trap suspended particles and improve water clarity. Pristine is not an instant chemical clarifier and may require several days to produce visible results.

How to Use the SureStart Pack in a New Aquarium

Each product must be measured and used separately according to its own directions. Do not combine the bottles or assume that all three products use the same dosage.

  1. Fill the aquarium with water and begin operating the filter, heater, and aeration.
  2. Add Prime to remove chlorine and chloramine from untreated tap water.
  3. Shake Stability well and begin the recommended seven-day startup schedule.
  4. Add Pristine after the aquarium is conditioned to help establish bacteria that break down excess organic waste.
  5. Turn off UV sterilizers and ozone while bacterial products are becoming established.
  6. Test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and other appropriate water parameters regularly.
  7. Continue normal aquarium cycling and maintenance rather than relying on bottled products alone.

Seachem Prime Directions

Use 5 mL of Prime for every 50 US gallons of new water.

Prime may be added to the replacement water before the water change or directly to the aquarium. When adding it directly to the aquarium before untreated tap water enters, calculate the dose based on the aquarium’s total water volume.

Approximate Prime Dosage Guide

  • 5 Gallons: Approximately 0.5 mL
  • 10 Gallons: Approximately 1 mL
  • 20 Gallons: Approximately 2 mL
  • 29 Gallons: Approximately 2.9 mL
  • 40 Gallons: Approximately 4 mL
  • 50 Gallons: 5 mL
  • 75 Gallons: Approximately 7.5 mL
  • 100 Gallons: 10 mL

A normal sulfur-like odor is characteristic of Prime and does not indicate that the product has spoiled.

Seachem Stability Directions for a New Aquarium

Shake Stability well before use and turn off UV sterilizers or ozone.

  • First Day: Use 5 mL per 10 US gallons
  • Days 2–7: Use 5 mL per 20 US gallons daily

Seachem states that fish may be introduced during the seven-day period as long as the recommended dosage is maintained. However, continue testing ammonia and nitrite because cycling time varies among aquariums and may take several weeks.

Approximate Stability First-Day Dosage

  • 5 Gallons: Approximately 2.5 mL
  • 10 Gallons: 5 mL
  • 20 Gallons: 10 mL
  • 29 Gallons: Approximately 14.5 mL
  • 40 Gallons: 20 mL
  • 55 Gallons: Approximately 27.5 mL
  • 75 Gallons: Approximately 37.5 mL

Approximate Stability Dosage for Days 2–7

  • 5 Gallons: Approximately 1.25 mL daily
  • 10 Gallons: Approximately 2.5 mL daily

Stability Maintenance Directions

After the initial seven-day startup period, use 5 mL per 20 gallons:

  • Once per month
  • With water changes
  • When introducing new fish
  • After biological filter disruption
  • When medicating the aquarium

Keep UV or ozone turned off throughout the seven-day startup schedule. For routine additions after a water change or livestock addition, keep UV or ozone off for at least 24 hours.

Seachem Pristine Directions

Shake Pristine well before use and turn off UV sterilizers or ozone.

Use 5 mL for every 10 US gallons for the initial dose.

For maintenance, use 5 mL for every 20 gallons when adding livestock or after the biological filter has been disrupted by cleaning or medication.

Approximate Initial Pristine Dosage

  • 5 Gallons: Approximately 2.5 mL
  • 10 Gallons: 5 mL
  • 20 Gallons: 10 mL
  • 29 Gallons: Approximately 14.5 mL
  • 40 Gallons: 20 mL
  • 55 Gallons: Approximately 27.5 mL
  • 75 Gallons: Approximately 37.5 mL

Allow two to three days for the Pristine bacteria to become established before restarting UV sterilizers or ozone.

Prime, Stability & Pristine Perform Different Jobs

  • Prime: Conditions tap water and temporarily detoxifies nitrogen compounds
  • Stability: Helps establish and maintain the aquarium’s biological filter
  • Pristine: Helps break down larger organic waste, sludge, detritus, and excess food

One product does not replace the others. Prime is not a bottled bacteria product, Stability is not a dechlorinator, and Pristine is not an instant chemical water clarifier.

SureStart vs. the Discontinued HeadStart Pack

The current SureStart Pack and the discontinued HeadStart Pack contain different third products:

  • Current SureStart Pack: Prime, Stability, and Pristine
  • Discontinued HeadStart Pack: Prime, Stability, and Clarity

Clarity is a chemical flocculating water clarifier. Pristine is a bacterial organic-waste treatment. They are not interchangeable products.

Customers should check the product name and bottles pictured on the package to confirm which version they are purchasing.

Does SureStart Instantly Cycle an Aquarium?

No bottled bacteria product can guarantee that every aquarium will be fully cycled immediately. Stability introduces beneficial bacteria, but the aquarium still requires time, suitable filter media, adequate oxygen, and an ammonia source for the bacterial colonies to establish.

Seachem notes that aquarium cycling commonly takes approximately four to six weeks, even when Stability is used. Continue testing ammonia and nitrite before assuming that the aquarium is fully established.

Can Fish Be Added Immediately?

Seachem states that fish and other aquatic animals may be introduced during Stability’s seven-day startup schedule as long as the dosage is maintained.

Adding livestock gradually is still safer than fully stocking a new aquarium at once. Monitor ammonia and nitrite daily, avoid overfeeding, and be prepared to perform conditioned water changes when needed.

Use During Water Changes

Prime should be used whenever untreated tap water is added. Stability may be added after the water change to support the biofilter, particularly when filter media has been cleaned or the aquarium has experienced a significant disturbance.

Pristine may be used when excess food, detritus, sludge, or organic films are accumulating. It does not need to be added automatically during every water change if the aquarium does not require it.

Use After Filter Cleaning

Overcleaning biological filter media can reduce beneficial bacterial populations. Stability may be added after filter maintenance to support recovery.

Pristine may also be used when sludge or organic debris has been disturbed. Always rinse established biological media in removed aquarium water rather than untreated chlorinated tap water.

Use with UV Sterilizers and Ozone

Prime may be used while UV sterilization or ozone is operating.

Stability and Pristine contain bacteria that may be damaged or killed by UV and ozone. Turn these systems off while bacterial cultures are being established:

  • Stability during cycling: Keep UV and ozone off throughout the seven-day dosing period
  • Stability after water changes or adding fish: Keep UV and ozone off for at least 24 hours
  • Pristine: Allow two to three days before restarting UV or ozone

Do not turn off essential aquarium circulation, filtration, or aeration.

Use After Medication

Some medications, especially antibiotics, may affect biological filtration. Stability may be used to support the biofilter according to its directions.

Before adding Pristine after antibiotic treatment, remove the medication through an appropriate water change and fresh activated carbon. Allow the carbon to remove residual medication before adding bacterial products.

Do not use this starter pack as a replacement for diagnosing or treating fish disease.

Use in Planted Aquariums

Prime, Stability, and Pristine may be used in freshwater planted aquariums according to their directions.

The SureStart Pack does not provide plant fertilizers, carbon, iron, potassium, root nutrition, or lighting. A planted aquarium still requires a care routine appropriate for its plant species and growth conditions.

Use with Shrimp, Snails & Other Invertebrates

The products in SureStart are suitable for aquariums containing freshwater or marine invertebrates when used as directed.

Shrimp and other sensitive invertebrates still require stable temperature, GH, KH, pH, salinity, and other species-specific parameters. SureStart does not establish these mineral conditions.

Important Aquarium Care Note

The SureStart Pack supports aquarium startup and maintenance but does not replace water testing, aquarium cycling, suitable filtration, water changes, or proper stocking.

Prime temporarily detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate but does not physically remove them. Stability and Pristine introduce bacteria but do not eliminate the need to correct overfeeding, overstocking, insufficient filtration, or poor maintenance.

Cloudy water may be caused by bacterial blooms, substrate dust, algae, excess food, decaying material, or chemical imbalance. Determine the cause before selecting a treatment.
