Fritz Calcium Liquid Test Kit – Aquarium Calcium Testing

Measure calcium levels in aquarium water using Fritz Aquatics' liquid titration test kit. Calcium is important for reef-building corals and other calcifying marine organisms, and Fritz also discusses calcium monitoring in freshwater aquariums containing plants and invertebrates. Follow the instructions supplied with your particular kit.

Manufacturer-Verified Details

  • Manufacturer item number: 04007
  • Test method: Liquid drop-count titration with Calcium Test Solution #1 and #2
  • Sample volume: 5 mL aquarium water
  • Reading: Calcium in ppm = number of drops of solution #2 × 20
  • Color endpoint: Pink, then purple, then blue
  • Test count: Variable depending on calcium concentration and reagent consumption

How to Test

  1. Fill the test tube to the 5 mL line with aquarium water.
  2. Hold solution bottle #1 vertically and add 10 drops. Cap and gently shake to mix.
  3. Shake solution bottle #2 vigorously for at least 10 seconds.
  4. Add solution #2 one drop at a time, holding the bottle vertically, mixing gently and counting each drop.
  5. Stop when the sample turns blue. Multiply the drops of solution #2 by 20 to determine calcium concentration in ppm. Refer to the included chart and instructions.

Care and Safety

Use the test-tube cap and avoid direct skin contact with test reagents; contact may affect results and the reagents can be hazardous. Keep away from children, avoid eye contact, and never pour used test solutions back into an aquarium. Check reagent expiration dates and follow package safety instructions. Adjust calcium gradually with attention to alkalinity (KH) and magnesium balance.
