Adult Oscar Care Requirements
Oscars (Astronotus ocellatus) commonly reach 10–14 inches. Plan for at least 75 gallons for one adult, preferably 90–125 gallons, with a larger setup for more than one. Use strong biological filtration, regular water testing and water changes. Feed quality cichlid pellets as a staple with varied appropriate foods; avoid feeding live feeder fish due to parasite and disease risks. Oscars may eat smaller tankmates and become territorial. Fish sold at a juvenile size will require adult-sized housing as they grow.
