🐠 Honey Dwarf Gourami Care Guide
Common Name: Honey Gourami, Sunset Gourami
Scientific Name: Trichogaster chuna
Size: 1.5–2 inches (4–5 cm)
Lifespan: 4–6 years
🔹 Temperament & Behavior
- Peaceful, shy, and gentle—great for community tanks.
- Males display brighter colors (golden-orange) and may flare at each other during breeding but are far less aggressive than other gouramis.
- Prefer to swim in the middle and upper areas of the tank.
🔹 Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons for a pair; larger if keeping with other fish.
- Water Parameters:
- Temp: 75–82 °F (24–28 °C)
- pH: 6.0–7.5
- Hardness: 4–15 dGH
- Aquascape: Planted tank with floating plants, calm water flow, and plenty of hiding spots.
🔹 Tankmates
- Ideal with small peaceful species: rasboras, tetras, corydoras, small loaches, and shrimp.
- Avoid fin-nippers (tiger barbs) or larger aggressive fish.
🔹 Diet
- Omnivore: enjoys micro-pellets, flake food, frozen/live foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia).
- Supplement with vegetable matter for balance.
🔹 Breeding
- Bubble nest builder.
- Male will court female and guard the nest.
- Provide floating plants and shallow warm water for successful spawning.
✨ Fun fact: The Honey Gourami is one of the few gouramis that stays truly peaceful, making it one of the best beginner gouramis compared to the more aggressive Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius).
