The Gold Laser Corydoras (scientific name: Corydoras sp. "Gold Laser") is a beautiful and distinctive species of catfish, closely related to other Corydoras species but with a unique appearance. It’s particularly popular among aquarium hobbyists for its striking golden coloration and peaceful nature.
Key Features:
-
Appearance:
-
The Gold Laser Cory has a golden-yellow body with a shiny, almost iridescent appearance. The coloration is accentuated by a pattern of thin black lines, which gives it a "laser" effect along its sides, making it stand out in a tank.
-
It has a streamlined body with long, graceful fins, typical of Corydoras species.
-
They are relatively small fish, growing to around 2.5 to 3 inches (6-8 cm) in length, which makes them suitable for most aquarium sizes.
-
-
Temperament:
-
Like most Corydoras, they are peaceful and social fish. They prefer to live in groups (at least 4-6 individuals), which helps them feel secure and reduces stress.
-
They are bottom dwellers and spend much of their time scavenging for food in the substrate.
-
-
Tank Requirements:
-
Water Parameters: The Gold Laser Cory is not particularly demanding when it comes to water conditions but thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0-7.5) and a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C).
-
Substrate: As with other Corydoras species, a soft, smooth substrate (like sand or fine gravel) is ideal to protect their sensitive barbels.
-
Filtration: They prefer tanks with gentle filtration, as they are not strong swimmers.
-
Tankmates: The Gold Laser Cory is peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive species like tetras, guppies, or rasboras. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.

Diet:
-
The Gold Laser Cory is an omnivore, feeding on a variety of foods. They are bottom-feeders, so they will scavenge for any leftover food that sinks to the substrate.
-
In the aquarium, they can be fed high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, and occasionally live or frozen food like brine shrimp or bloodworms.
-
-
Lifespan:
-
When provided with good care, they can live for 5-7 years, sometimes longer.
-
-
Breeding:
-
Breeding Corydoras species, including the Gold Laser Cory, typically requires slightly cooler water and slightly higher oxygen levels to simulate the rainy season, which triggers spawning.
-
Eggs are usually laid on plants or hard surfaces, and the parents often take no further care of the eggs, which will hatch in about 3-4 days.
-
Fish may not be identical to the pictures you see online when receiving. Most are photos of the parents and to show what they will grow up like to resemble.
